"In Service to our Country"; D-E First Thursday Event
Hear compelling stories of service and sacrifice from alumni veterans. This D-E 125 "First Thursday" will include both Middle and Upper School assemblies for our students, and an evening panel discussion. Though the panels will differ for the three events, given their audiences, scheduled panelists will include Army Master Sergeant Robert Cory (ret) ESB '63, a Vietnam War veteran; Air Force Captain John Glidden (ret) ESB ’65, captain of a C-130 Hercules aircraft during the Vietnam War; Army Lieutenant Ed Hochman (ret) ESB '70, a military expert and Vietnam-era veteran; Air Force Major John Proietti (ret) '92, former captain of a B-1 Bomber crew; Army Major Dan Schwartz '90, a veteran of the Army medical corps in Iraq and Afghanistan; Active duty Navy Lieutenant Frank Doré, deployments include Somali, Djibouti and Afghanistan; and Joseph Iwanski, faculty member and US Navy veteran.

D-E's elite Upper School strings ensemble makes its Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall in New York City. Under the direction of Annaliesa Place, the ensemble will perform works by Bach, Finn, Garcia, Piazzolla, and Vivaldi. Joining the ensemble will be D-E alumna and violin soloist Harumi Rhodes '97.

"Pricing of Art & the Art Market"
Join us for this short 'talk' with Marc Hajjar '07, alumni curator for the 17th Annual Senior Spotlight Exhibit currently on view in Swartley Gallery!  Marc Hajjar (Dwight-Englewood Class of '07) holds a Bachelors in Art History from Washington University in St. Louis, a Masters in Art Business from Sotheby's, and is a candidate for a Masters in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts at NYU. Hajjar's primary research is on American architecture and painting, art economics, and collection management. He currently works as an Instructor for Sotheby's Institute teaching the finer points of the fine art auction world. Free admission.  Light refreshments will be available.

The panel will be moderated by D-E parent Liz Corsini, Director of the ZONE, a school-based adolescent mental health and prevention program at Dwight-Morrow High School/Academies@Englewood. Our distinguished "Giving Back" panelists will also include the following:
  • Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh '84, M,.D. renowned plastic surgeon & co-founder of the nonprofit Mission: Restore;
  • Scott Berrie '83, Founder of the Scojo Foundation and Emmy Award-winning producer, 'The Loving Story";
  • Aaron Dworkin '93, current Executive Vice President for the After-School All-Stars (ASAS) National Network, based in Washington, D.C.;
  • Todd Ehrlich '82, president of T-LINE TV, who has produced several New York Emmy Award-winning programs focused on local civic pride and community service, such as "Komen Race for the Cure" (breast cancer) and "Tunnel to Towers" (9/11);
  • Vivien Hoexter '78, the former president of Gilda's Club who is now a consultant to numerous nonprofits as President of Hoexter Executive Consulting;
  • Theodora “Teddi” (Langbaum) Hunter ‘87, who together with fellow alumna Jennifer (Plotnick) Backer '87, brought the Project Cicero used book drive for public school teachers to northern New Jersey;
  • Julia Orlando CRC, Ed.M, MA '83, who is the director of the Bergen County Housing, Health and Human Services Center; and
  • Parent Harriet Shugarman P '16, '17, the founder of ClimateMama, a climate change education, advocacy and advisory organization.
