"Where do you begin to highlight a season full of highlights?" (DE Today, Spring 2002) Coach Tom Curry took his senior-heavy 2001-02 boy1s basketball team to a storied season. This season started with the Bulldogs coming out of the gate winning its first 21 games. Throughout the season, the Bulldogs dominated the BCSL Olympic conference, as well as reaching the "Final Four" of the Bergen County Jamboree. This team also locked up the number one seed in the state tournament. Paterson Catholic –ranked 10th in the state – eventually was able to barely edge them out in the sectional semifinals 40-38, which ended the Bulldogs' season with a record of 23-3. However, this would not be the last time people heard about the 2001-02 Bulldogs basketball team. D-E was named North Jersey Team of the Year by the Bergen Record and Group ½ Team of the Year by the Bergen County Coaches Association. Coach Curry was voted Bergen County Coach of the Year by noth the Bergen County Coaches Association and the Newark Star Ledger.
